The Dreaded Snow

I don't know what the problem is but we just keep getting more and more snow!  I thought mother nature knew it was Spring.   I want the sun to shine and the flowers to pop up now.  OK I'm done!

My presentation

Today I got to participate in a career day at the middle school.  I was one of 2 parents presenting what we did for work.  A father went first who was the typical boring accountant.   I remember seeing something like this in movies and always having the accountant dully explaining his job away... somehow the phrase "anyone, anyone" from Farris Bueller resonates in my head.  It was a surreal experience.  I was second and I could not believe how engaging the kids were, they had so many questions!  It was exciting for me to talk about my job and to feel excited about it, after all I had something in common with all of them... I cut hair, they get hair cuts.  Anyway this morning I was really nervous about it, but it ended up being such a positive experience.  Yeah!

Parent Teacher Conferences

You know... I don't like PTC's they are exhausting.  I know that the teachers are not trying to tell me that I am a bad mother or my child is a bad kid, but it is really hard when you go and and introduce yourself and they say your child's name while shaking their head as if they were a huge burden in their class room (who knows it could be true).  Needless to say We've got a lot to work on.

There is always a silver lining

So I had such a lovely day (sarcastic) on Saturday (Valentines Day).  So I had this ethereal thought in my mind of what the day would bring, however, what I wanted and what happened were two different things.  What I wanted was for me to have a most relaxing day including me coming up with the perfect gift for my valentine.  So I started the day great,  I met several friends and went to a quilting class and then went to lunch.  My daughter and my friends daughter were there with us and got bored with adult conversation in the restaurant  and went out to my friends truck to listen to their ipods- after a while we went out to the truck, and the girls had wrapped the lap part of the seat belt around the back of the seat while the shoulder strap remained in the front of the seat.  The girls in their attempt to fix it tightened the strap very tight and we could not get it loosened up.  After messing with it for a time we finally gave up and drove back to my friends house and left her vehicle for her husband to fix the belt strap.  We took my car and drove it down 7800 South almost to Bacchus Hwy. and dropped my friends daughter off at a birthday party and then were planning to do the Valentines shopping.  We began heading east on 7800 and my gas light went on, then within 1/2 mile my car completely lost power, it felt like I had ran out of gas, so logically that's what I thought happened.  To make it worse, I have not been real good about refueling in a timely manner and have run out of gas oh... 3-4 times in the last year (don't tell!) so my friends began making fun of me as usual.  I called Ron and he came out and brought gas; the car still wouldn't start, he tried to jump start the car and it still would not start. Ron took my friend Jennifer back to get her car while I called my insurance to get a tow ruck dispatched.  They told me it would be 20 minutes.  Well 20 minutes went by and no tow truck.  But the thing that did come was my need to go to the bathroom ( I guess I shouldn't have had 3 cokes at lunch) I waited for over an hour and finally couldn't hold it anymore- I had to pee on the side of the road!  I think I will have nightmares for months!  When the truck driver finally got there and we could finally leave it had been 2 hours!  Needless to say I bought no Valentines day gift.  I got home from my lovely experience to my sweet husband and son showering me with cards and gifts- they are so wonderful!  I just broke down and cried.  On Monday the mechanic said when they went to look at my car it started right up, I think steam began blowing out my ears!  Of course that's how it would be. They did a diagnostic and by the time they found all the problems my bill was over 1100$  Luckily $600 of it was covered by a warranty.  I won't have my car back for a few days.  It all is a bummer. However I do have to say that my Valentines was still wonderful.  I had the love of my life with me and tell me it was all right, I didn't really run out of gas, and I know that I am brave- I peed at the side of the road.  So there is always  silver lining.

How Kyle got short hair

Well I had an experience about a week ago that I found maddening and humorous.  Our puppy Lily the chewer that she is decided to pull and chew off all of the wiring to the satellite that was nailed down to our house off of our house.  It made Ron really upset so he grabbed the dog by her collar and took her over to it and told her NO!  He came back into the house grumbling the whole way and said to me 'Alison when am I going to get a haircut?' (you know how the cobblers' family always have the holiest shoes)  I told him right now wanting to calm him.  Ron then informed Kyle that he was also getting a hair cut (because he chooses not to wash his hair in the shower, only to stand under the stream of water for 30min and waist all of the hot water for the next person), Ron then told Ashley to clean her room.  SO I cut Ron's hair, then cut Kyle's to the tune of 5 inches , during the big event Kyle expressed to me how much he hated his dad and I told him I loved him too.  Needless to say he looks great!!!  Yeah for the dog , we finally got Kyle's hair cut!
